So far, Rohit has played in 230 IPL matches for the franchise, scoring 5994 runs, including two centuries.

With the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) eyeing ending their title drought in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the franchise recently celebrated a momentous feat with their record-winning captain, Rohit Sharma, completing 15 years. The Mumbai batter, who made his debut with MI on April 10, 2011, celebrated 15 years with the franchise. While he continues his legacy in the blue and gold colours, he received massive accolades for his elaborated career.

Amidst this, the current MI skipper and all-rounder Hardik Pandya also paid special tribute to his teammate, recalling the latter’s journey over the years. In a video uploaded on MI’s social handles, Hardik stated, “Bro, congratulations on 15 years. Thank you for the way you’ve led this franchise for so long. I made my debut under you, and so did Boom (Jasprit Bumrah) and many others.”

“Thank you for inspiring so many who’ve gone on to represent both this franchise and India. You’ve been amazing, not just as a leader, but as a person, always friendly, open, and leading from the front. Many congratulations, and thank you for everything you’ve done over the years,” he added.

Rohit Sharma’s 15-year legacy continues at MI in IPL

The 38-year-old, who remains only one of the two skippers to guide their franchise to five IPL titles, began his IPL career in 2008 with Deccan Chargers. But the stalwart was signed by MI in 2011 and began his MI stint under Sachin Tendulkar’s captaincy. So far, Rohit has played in 230 IPL matches for the franchise, scoring 5994 runs including two centuries.

However, his most significant contribution lies with the captaincy as he helped MI win five titles – 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. He was also part of the MI side that won the 2011 and 2013 Champions Leagues. If Rohit does succeed in winning the IPL this season, he will become the most successful player in the history of the competition. In IPL 2026, the 38-year-old has amassed 118 runs across three innings at an average of 39.33 and a strike rate of over 150 (168.57) with one fifty-plus score already to his name.
