Virat Kohli last played for India back in March during the ODI Champions Trophy final vs New Zealand.

Rarely does Virat Kohli put personal thoughts on his social media these days. However, he has dropped a massive hint recently after all the murmurs going around regarding his and Rohit Sharma’s future in Indian cricket.

Virat Kohli tweet breaks internet

Kohli, who usually posts adverts, shared a quote on his X (formerly known as Twitter). The quote read, “The only time you truly fail, is when you decide to give up.” What’s intriguing, you ask? Well, everything. Kohli, who has retired from T20 internationals and Tests as well, only plays one-day international cricket. He is part of the upcoming India vs Australia 3-match ODI series Down Under but the rumours about his future grabbed all the headlines. As per BCCI’s chief selector, Kohli and Rohit Sharma are non-committal about their future, particularly for the ODI World Cup 2027.

However, now, it looks like Kohli wants to send a signal to amp down the rumour mill. He is not a character that ‘fails’ and as per Kohli, the one who truly fails is when he decides to ‘give up’. In a cricketing sense, one can sense that Kohli is not looking to hang up his boots as of yet. Having ruled all the batting charts, especially in ODI cricket, Kohli is perhaps the greatest batter to play the format.

Interestingly, Kohli landed in Perth when he posted the tweet. He, alongside Rohit and new ODI skipper Shubman Gill, boarded in the first batch from Delhi to Australia. The three-match ODI series, starting October 19 in Perth before moving to Adelaide and Sydney, marks the first time Kohli and Rohit will be seen in blue since their international retirements from Tests earlier this year. Their return has stirred plenty of anticipation, not just because of their stature, but because of what it could mean for India’s approach in the lead-up to the next 50-over World Cup in 2027. With Gambhir keen to focus on the present rather than speculate on long-term plans, the spotlight now turns to how the duo performs Down Under.
