Vaibhav Suryavanshi & Ayush Mhatre's India U19 teammate takes 5-wicket haul on DPL debut

Udhav Mohan is just the fourth bowler to take a 5-wicket haul in DPL; doing so in your debut match makes it even more special.

India might have found another star in the making. Udhav Mohan hasn’t made his Delhi debut yet. But the right-arm fast bowler has something special about him. The 18-year-old started playing Under-19 cricket for Delhi recently and, less than a week ago, earned his maiden call-up for the India U-19 team.

India U-19 selection

The fast bowler wasn’t part of the junior team for the England tour but has found himself a spot in the 17-man squad for the upcoming 5-match series, which starts on September 21. But that wasn’t the only good news Udhav heard in July. Earlier in the month, he had gone under the hammer at the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 auction.

He was picked by Purani Dilli 6 for Rs 6.60 lakh. Only a handful of players earned more than Udhav in category B of the auction. The Vansh Bedi-led team saw something in the teenager. Of course, that was validated when the selectors picked him for the India U19 team.

5-wicket haul on DPL debut

On a high, Udhav made his DPL debut on August 6 against the Outer Delhi Warriors at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Bedi handed him the ball in the 10th over. He bowled a tight first over and got Shivam Sharma’s wicket on the last ball of his second over. Mind you, Shivam hasn’t just played for Delhi but even in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

That turned out to be just the start. In his next 12 balls, Udhav got 4 more wickets. In fact, no one got a wicket apart from him. Mohit Panwar, Dhruv Singh, Siddhant Sharma, and Harsh Tyagi were his scalps. All of them were caught. His pace and bounce got the better of them as they skied the ball in the air.

He deceived Siddhant, the Outer Delhi Warriors captain, with a full slower ball outside off. Udhav showed that he has the pace and the skill to succeed in modern cricket. He’s just the fourth bowler after Siddhartha Solanki, Ayush Singh, and Anshuman Hooda to take a 5-wicket haul in DPL.

His talent shouldn’t shock anyone. Udhav comes from the same academy as Virat Kohli, West Delhi Cricket Academy, and has trained under Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma.
