The Sri Lankan team had faced a ghastly attack in Pakistan, during their tour of 2009, where a few players sustained injuries.

After Islamabad was rocked by a suicide bomb attack, the security for the Sri Lankan team in Pakistan, has been increased. On Tuesday, 12 people were killed in PAK’s capital, following which the security for the Lanka side, which is there for a limited-overs series has been stepped up.

Increased security cover for Sri Lanka

As per PTI, PCB chief and Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi met the opposition team officials to assure them of safety. He himself went to the stadium, to check if the safety protocols were in place. “Security has been beefed up with Pakistan Army and the paramilitary Rangers now deputed to monitor safety for the visiting players and officials,” a PCB source confirmed.

As far as the series is concerned, hosts Pakistan have taken a 1-0 lead over Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series, winning the first encounter by six runs. In the first innings Pakistan had scored 299, while SL could only manage 293. Now, the next match also will be played in Rawalpindi on NOV 13.

Meanwhile, safety concerns could be real for the Sri Lankan team, who were attacked by terrorists in Pakistan, during the tour of 2009. A few players had sustained injuries too, in that horrific episode, post which Pakistan did not get to host any team for a long, long time.

Earlier, after the Delhi attack recently, the security cover for Team India and South Africa was also increased. The Proteas are in India for a two-match Test series, with the encounters taking place in Kolkata and Guwahati.
