So, three weeks before the IND vs SA Test series gets underway in India, the Proteas have announced their squad — with minimal changes in their side, from the recent Pakistan series. To be precise, there are only three changes with regular captain Temba Bavuma returning to the fold, and the likes of Prenelan Subrayen and David Beginham facing the axe.
Temba Bavuma Returns
The Test series starts on November 14 in Kolkata, while the second match will be played in Guwahati a week later. The South African side displayed great skill against Pakistan to comeback in the series 1-1, after losing the first match convincingly. For the Indian conditions, the team seems to be well-prepared, with their two spinning options in Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer.
The latter has been a revelation — with the County veteran picking up his 1000th FC wicket recently. In 12 matches he has gone on to pick up 52 wickets at an average of 26, and could be a big challenge for the Indian team. On the other hand, their batting has been doing decently too.
Tony de Zorzi scored a fifty and a hundred against Pakistan in the two Tests, with Ryan Rickelton among runs as well. Their all-rounder Muthusamy also showed great resistance lower down the order and scored a fifty too. Coach Shukri Conrad spoke on the team selection and said, he wanted to retain core team from PAK series.
“We’ve kept the bulk of the squad that competed in the two-match series against Pakistan. Those players showed real character and fought hard to come from behind and draw that series. We are anticipating a similar challenge in India, and many of the players who stood up in those conditions will once again be key for us.”
