Out of favour Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal put up an impressive performance in County Championship yet again, as he sizzled with a six-wicket haul for Northamptonshire on Wednesday. Despite having 119 wickets from 43 first-class games, the bowler is yet to make his Test debut for India and has been left out the white-ball setups for over two years now. Unbothered by the snub, Chahal continues to be impressive with the ball.
Chahal wreaks havoc on Derbyshire
Chahal finished with figures of 6/118 from 33.2 overs on Day 2 of Northamptonshire vs Derbyshire. He struck twice in the 25th over – getting rid of Harry Came in the first delivery and L Reece in the last ball of the over. An over later, Chahal bagged his third wicket by dismissing Guest. He then wreaked havoc on the lower order, wrapping up Derbyshire’s innings for 377 runs.
Chahal bounced back in this match after going wicketless in the previous tie against Kent. So far, he has figures of 0/129, 4/51, 0/175 and 6/118 in the ongoing County Championship. Chahal played for Northamptonshire in the 2024-25 season as well and received a callback from the club.
Prior to the County, Chahal was last seen in action for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. As per reports, Punjab Kings are set to release the veteran ahead of the next season. Being IPL’s highest wicket-taker, Chahal was bought for a whooping Rs 18 crore in the mega auction before IPL 2025. Despite shining with the ball, Chahal’s future with PBKS may come to an end before IPL 2026.
