The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) is all set to launch its franchise tournament – Punjab Premier League (PPL) – in an aim to rebrand domestic cricket in the state. The league, which is expected to see its inaugural edition in June 2026, is set to provide a platform for several young and budding players.
With the talks around the league underway, it comes as exciting news, promising high-stake action with franchise-owned teams coming into the scene. The domestic league, which is likely to replace the T20 tournament in the state, will see six teams take part in the inaugural edition.
Gill, Abhishek, Arshdeep to star in PPL
The inaugural edition of the tournament is set to see some of the marquee players in Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, who have gone on to become key players in the Indian setup. While it will be obviously dependent on thier availability, the league has promised no shortage of superstars.
Apart from them, other seasoned Punjab players like Ramandeep Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Anmolpreet Singh, Prabhsimran Singh will also be a part of the tournament along with some of the rising U-19 stars like Vihaan Malhotra. They are all well-known stars who also light up the Indian Premier League (IPL).
A few other prominent names from the state of Punjab like Mayank Markande, Ashwani Kumar, Gurnoor Brar, Harpreet Brar will also be able to participate in the league. Although, not much is known about it for now, but as per the press release, players go through a draft, where they will be placed in different price slabs and franchises will make a bid in an IPL-like auction setup.
PPL joins the likes of KSCA Maharaja Trophy, Kerela Cricket League, Delhi Premier League T20, Puducherry Premier League, Bengal T20 Pro and many other state-based leagues.
