'Pakistan needs special attention': Moshin Naqvi asked to resign as PCB chairman after Asia Cup debacle

Shahid Afridi has asked Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi to resign following the team's debacle at Asia Cup 2025

Former Pakistan Cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has asked Mohsin Naqvi to step down as the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman after the country’s debacle in the Asia Cup. Salman Ali Agha and co. lost to India by 5 wickets in the final, marking a hat-trick of defeats against the Men in Blue. Afridi said that Pakistan cricket needed special attention at the moment and that it would be wise for Naqvi to step down as PCB chairman.

Afridi wants Naqvi to resign as PCB chairman

As per Telecom Asia Sport, Afridi pointed out that the role of a PCB chairman warranted for full attention which Naqvi couldn’t do at the moment as he was also the country’s Interior Minister. The former Pakistan captain claimed that the PCB chairman couldn’t simply rely on advisers to run the country’s cricket as it was leading them nowhere. Afridi added that Naqvi needs to appoint good and competent advisers in order to take cricket forward in Pakistan.

My request or advice to Naqvi Saheb is that these are two very important posts, and they are big jobs that need time. PCB is totally different from the Interior Ministry, so it must be kept separate. It would be a big decision and should be taken as soon as possible. Pakistan cricket needs special attention and time Naqvi cannot rely totally on advisers,” Afridi was quoted as saying.

Naqvi has been in the eye of the storm ever since the Asia Cup final when the Indian team refused to collect the trophy from him. Following that, they have gone back and forth at each other. While reports claimed that the PCB chairman had apologised to India at an ACC meeting but hadn’t congratulated them on winning Asia Cup, Naqvi hit back on Wednesday stating that he will never apologize to the BCCI.
