No RCB homecoming for Yuzvendra Chahal, PBKS bag spinner for Rs 18 crore at IPL 2025 auction

Chahal is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history.

Yuzvendra Chahal has joined the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a whopping Rs 18 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. The leg-spinner had the chance to join his old home, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Part of the second marquee set, it wasn’t until late that RCB placed a bid for Chahal.

They wished to bag him for Rs 14.25 crore, but as the bid started to increase, they backed out. That remained their last bid, and PBKS then scooped the spinner for Rs 18 crore. Until last year, Chahal was paid just Rs 6.5 crore; there he’ll earn nearly thrice more than what he used to.

Chahal’s IPL journey: From MI to PBKS

Having made his IPL debut in 2013 with MI, the leggie has become the most successful wicket-taker in the league’s history. He may have started with MI, but RCB became his home for 8 seasons. Chahal somehow found success in the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is considered to be a bowler’s graveyard due to its small dimensions and batting-friendly surface.

But, surprisingly, he was let go with RCB not even bidding for him at the IPL 2022 mega auction. Heartbroken, Chahal went to the Rajasthan Royals and won the purple cap in his first year there. He continued to find success with RR, but with just six retentions allowed to be made, they released him before the IPL 2025 season.

Now, he joins his fourth team and hopes to find the same success he’s always had.
