Amid uncertainty over Mohammed Shami‘s international comeback, a report has now shed light on the bowler’s current status. The veteran pacer, who played his last ODI for India in the ODI World Cup 2023, was awaiting a fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as he was recovering from his injury. While a report claimed that the BCCI might delay the squad announcement for Champions Trophy 2025 and IND vs ENG ODIs by a week, there is some good news for Shami.
Shami to play in CT 2025, IND vs ENG ODIs?
As per Cricbuzz, Shami might have received clearance from the Sports Science wing of the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence or is expected to get it. He is expected to feature in both the ODI series against England and in the Champions Trophy 2025. However, it is highly unlikely that he will be included in the side for IND vs ENG T20Is.

Shami went under the knife in early 2024 after carrying an ankle injury throughout the ODI World Cup. He then began his recovery at the NCA and made his return to domestic cricket in the Ranji Trophy. Subsequently, he featured in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and was then rested for the opening round matches of VHT.
He was supposed to return to international cricket towards the end of 2024 but his comeback was delayed due to complications in his recovery. The pacer developed swelling in his knees, which delayed his comeback. However, he took part in VHT knockout game as well and is now expected to make his highly-anticipated return very soon.
India will receive a major boost if Shami is added to the side for CT 2025. In fact, he will have the perfect warm-up stage in the three-match ODI series against England that precedes the marquee tournament. All eyes will be on the selectors as they are expected to announce the squad for both the tournaments in probably a week’s time or so.
