MI kick-started their IPL 2026 campaign on a winning note, securing a 6-wicket win at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

In what is a good news for Mumbai Indians, Mitchell Santner has joined the squad ahead of their Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) tie against Delhi Capitals (DC). The New Zealand captain had missed the tournament opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), having recently finished international duties. MI kick-started their IPL 2026 campaign on a winning note, securing a 6-wicket win at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

Santner to play in MI vs DC

As per Cricbuzz, Santner has joined the MI camp on Thursday and is likely to be available for selection for the MI vs DC match which will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. He recently led New Zealand to the T20 World Cup 2026 final but unfortunately could not clinch the trophy as the Kiwis were trumped by India.

Bought for 2 Cr, the Kiwi player might not come as the most flamboyant characters, but then just does the job. He may not be even part of playing XIs, but to have a solid back up like him, could mean a lot to MI. He picked up 10 wickets in 13 matches, and scored 40 runs.

Santner made his IPL debut way back in 2019 and was with CSK for five seasons before making his move to MI in 2025. The New Zealand captain is one of the final players to join the side as the team still awaits the arrival of England all-rounder Will Jacks.
