India cricket team decided to leave out Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh from their playing XI for the IND vs ENG 5th Test in London. This marks the end of the tour for the duo who did not even feature in a single game despite being named in the squad. India made four changes to their playing XI – Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep, Karun Nair and Prasidh Krishna coming in for Rishabh Pant, Anshul Kamboj, Shardul Thakur and Jasprit Bumrah.
Kuldeep, Arshdeep finish England series without a game
Kuldeep last featured in a Test in October 2024 in the series against New Zealand following which he was injured. He then made his return to the squad in June after he missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to his injury. However, the Indian captain and the team management decided to let Kuldeep warm the bench throughout the series. Despite multiple experts calling for the spinner’s inclusion in the playing XI, Gill decided to stick with Sundar and Jadeja as the two spin options.
As for Arshdeep, he was all but confirmed to make his Test debut in Manchester before an injury saw him get ruled out of the game. The Punjab pacer picked up a hand injury while training for the IND vs ENG 4th Test following which he received stitches to his hand. Subsequently, he was ruled out of the tie and was replaced by Anshul Kamboj.
Arshdeep received his maiden call-up to the Test side for the England tour. On Wednesday, captain Gill had said that the left-arm pacer has been told to ‘be ready.’ But it seems like the management isn’t ready to hand someone their debut with the series on the line.
