India cricket team have been trading very carefully over Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management ever since he broke down in the Sydney Test against Australia. The veteran Indian bowler has already played three Tests so far in the ongoing IND vs ENG series – the exact number of games that he said he would play in the series. While speculations continues over his availability for the 5th Test, a new report has spilled the beans on his workload management.
Bumrah advised to bowl only 45-50 overs in a Test
As per Times of India, Bumrah has been advised to bowl just 45-50 overs in a Test match. The speedster bowled 33 overs in Manchester, 43 overs at Lord’s and 43.4 overs in Leeds – well below the quota that he has been advised. The report stated that Bumrah’s breakdown in Sydney was due to his intense spell in the 4th Test in Melbourne as per the BCCI medical team who attended to him back then.
Meanwhile, India head coach Gautam Gambhir maintained that all Indian pacers, including Bumrah, were fit and available for selection for the IND vs ENG 5th Test. He had said that a decision on the team combination or the pacer’s inclusion in the playing XI hadn’t been made yet. The report states that the BCCI is allegedly uncomfortable with the selectors and the team management going into a series without knowing if Bumrah will be available or not. The report further claims that sources informed that they believed Bumrah was certain to give the Oval Test a miss once he made himself available for the Manchester Test.
“The BCCI is uncomfortable with the selectors and the team management going into a series without knowing if Bumrah will be available for the entire series. It is being considered whether he should make himself available for the entire series or not at all,” the report stated.
