For long, Pakistan has been called a poor fielding side, with them dropping catches, or even missing run-outs. Their recent match against Afghanistan was no different, that they eventually lost; as per a stat by Cricbuzz, they are the one worst fielding units out of 41 assessed teams on different pararmeters.
Pakistan’s Sloppy Fielding Under Question
Since the start of 2024, they have dropped 48 catches in all. Apart from that, the count of misfields amounts to 89, second only to the West Indies. The run-outs missed is also a staggering 98 times, while the second-placed team has 73 missed opportunities. Taking this further, balls with overthrows goes to a staggering 16 times.
Talking about dropped catches once again, Pakistanis are quite a hit on social media, for their clips of dropped catches, and this stat shows just why. Their catching efficiency is only 81.4%, joint 8th along with Ireland among the 12 full members of the ICC.
PAK Lose to AFG by 18 Runs
As far as the match is concerned, Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan were in total control right from the start. After losing Gurbaz early, Sediqullah Atal and Ibrahim Zadran forged a 100-run partnership, that paved the way for their win. Haris Rauf was poor with the ball, as he gave away 38 runs in three overs.
Come the chase, Pakistan looked out of sorts. Rauf turned out to be their highest-scorer, as he slammed 34 from 16 deliveries. Other batters failed big time. In fact, at one point they were 103/8. Noor Ahmad and Mohammad Nabi, both returned with figures of 2/20 in their respective four overs.
