India Cricket schedule continues to grow post IPL 2026. In that list, a new series has been added as India will tour Zimbabwe for three T20Is in August after the white-ball tour of England. This is India’s third tour of Zimbabwe in the last four years. In 2022, India last played three ODIs in Zimbabwe and five T20Is in 2024. This time, there will be three T20Is in the India vs Zimbabwe series. On the last tour, India won 4-1. India will host Sikandar Raza-led Zimbabwe in January 2027 for a three-match ODI series.
Among the big three (India, England and Australia), only India have consistently toured Zimbabwe in the last few years. In 2026, that will change. Australia will tour Zimbabwe in September, and before that, they will visit Zimbabwe for a short series. Zimbabwe Cricket is also in talks with England for a one-off Test in late 2026 before their South Africa tour.
However, while Zimbabwe is happy with India touring the nation, they want to play Test cricket against the Big Three, as per journalist Tristan Travale’s Cricket Financial Journal. India’s last Test against Zimbabwe was back in 2005. Since then, India have not played Zimbabwe in Test.
“It is a big boost for Zimbabwean cricket every time we play India, Australia and England. If we can play them in Test cricket, it will be a great opportunity for the players who can only improve when playing against the best and also rewards us for our efforts to keep playing Test cricket,” Zimbabwe Cricket chair Tavengwa Mukuhlani told CFJ.
Will India test IPL performers?
In the June-July window, the reigning T20 World Cup champions will play as many as 10 T20Is. With ODIs in focus, Team India could look at testing some new faces in the T20I side. India’s post-IPL calendar will begin with a one-off Test against Afghanistan, followed by three ODIs. Then, in Ireland, India will play two T20Is before flying to England for five T20Is.
With as many matches, the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Vaibhav Suryavanshi will be hopeful of a chance. Iyer missed out on the T20 World Cup squad as there was no space. But as India will begin a new cycle, he could be back in the scheme of things.
Similarly, many former cricketers have already called for giving teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi a chance. As he has turned 15, he is now eligible for India cap. He already showed the world what he could do with a 35-ball century in IPL last season. He has already begun IPL 2026 with a 15-ball half-century against Chennai Super Kings.
