India squad for Asia Cup: Selectors could give Jasprit Bumrah a miss, replacement ready

India squad Asia Cup: Jasprit Bumrah was declared fit for selection, but the selectors might still leave him out.

Tuesday is when the Indian selectors announce the India squad for the Asia Cup 2025, with most of the calls already taken. But as per a report in Sportstar, there isn’t much clarity on the status of Jasprit Bumrah for now. That means, with a pace slot open, and Mohammed Shami unavailable, Prasidh Krishna could be in.

Fit Jasprit Bumrah to Miss Asia Cup?

The call will only be taken when the selectors sit with T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav and take his inputs as well. A lot has already been spoken about Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management, where it was decided that he would only play three Tests in England. That has given fodder to the experts, questioning the approach by the Indian team management.

There were also rumours that Bumrah wasn’t fit for the last Test at the Oval, which were countered by another set of reports. So, no one really knows, if the pacer is fit or not. That said, notwithstanding his brilliance, this T20I Indian side can perform well without him as well.

Prasidh Krishna Likely In

If Prasidh Krishna is eventually chosen, he could be a good bet, considering his excellent form in the format. In IPL 2025, he had finished as the purple cap holder, finishing with 25 wickets in 15 matches, where his average was only 19.52, and his economy was 8.27. Plus, he would have a seasoned Arshdeep Singh for support as well, who is on the verge of becoming first Indian pacer to bag 100 T20I wickets.

As far as other selections go, a tough call could be taken on Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. The duo are very integral part of the Test team. The Asia Cup final will be played on September 28, while the West Indies Test series is scheduled to begin on October 2 in Ahmedabad. So, the duo might be out of the race.
