The name that surfaced when there were talks on India’s Champions Trophy squad selection is Karun Nair, The 33-year-old batter, Nair, is setting the Vijay Hazare Trophy on fire with his exceptional performance. The Vidarbha batter has scored an incredible 752 runs in seven innings in the tournament, being dismissed only once, giving him an astonishing average of 752.00. His performance has fueled discussions about his potential inclusion in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad. Despite these impressive numbers, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik believes Nair might not make the cut at all.
Karthik’s take on Nair’s selection
Speaking on Cricbuzz’s HeyCBwithDK show, Karthik praised Nair’s form, “Karun Nair, your form has been unreal. Even Mayank Agarwal is doing well. It’s tempting to bring Nair into the setup, but the Indian ODI team is almost set. Too many changes aren’t possible.” Though Karthik bought Nair’s capability, he feels he might not be selected this time. “If he keeps performing, why not? He’s great against both pace and spin. I’m very happy for him,” he added.

Jaiswal likely to join ODI squad
While Nair’s selection is unsure, Karthik is confident young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal will feature in the three ODIs against England and the Champions Trophy. “Jaiswal is rested for the England T20Is after a long, draining tour of Australia. He deserves a break,” Karthik noted. He assured, “He’ll definitely be in the ODIs and Champions Trophy. He’s batting brilliantly.” Despite not yet making his ODI debut, Jaiswal is India’s top-ranked Test batter, and his inclusion in the upcoming series seems promising.
