Australia capped off a flawless Caribbean tour by completing their first-ever 5-0 T20I series sweep, becoming only the second full-member nation after India to achieve such a feat. Their three-wicket win in the fifth and final match at St Kitts sealed a spotless campaign where they also whitewashed the hosts in the Test series.
Chasing 171, Australia were rocked early as Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph reduced them to 4/60 inside the Powerplay. But a blistering counterattack from Cameron Green (32 off 18) and Mitch Owen (37 off 17) turned the tide with a rapid 63-run stand. Despite late strikes from Akeal Hosein, Aaron Hardie’s composed unbeaten 28 ensured Australia cruised home with three overs to spare.
Earlier, Ben Dwarshuis (3/41) spearheaded the bowling effort, dismissing Shai Hope and Brandon King cheaply to leave the hosts reeling. Shimron Hetmyer’s 52 and Sherfane Rutherford’s cameo (35 off 17) provided some resistance, but consistent breakthroughs restricted West Indies to 170.
Marsh’s Australia creates T20I history
This result etched Australia into an exclusive group in international T20I history. India were the only full-member nation to previously manage a 5-0 sweep, doing so against New Zealand in 2020. It came under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Fascintingly, India won’t the 5-0 series away from home, just like Australia did.
Apart from this, associate teams like Malaysia, Cayman, Tanzania and Spain (twice) have also recorded 5-0 wins in bilaterals previously.
