IPL 2023: Chris Gayle Recalls How Virat Kohli Helped Him to get his First IPL Ton
In the recent chat with AB de Villiers, former RCB player Chris Gayle talks about his bond with Kohli. The West Indian opener said that he and Kohli had a lot of fun both on and off the field. While talking about his first IPL hundred he said that Virat Kohli defended some balls to help me to complete my first century in IPL.
“I remember Virat Kohli kept blocking a few balls when I was on 98 in the first match, he did so I could get to my first IPL hundred,” said Gayle.

AB De Villiers, who is considered one of the best batsmen in the world, said that his relationship with Kohli was built on mutual respect and admiration for each other’s game. He recalled his first meeting with Virat Kohli. At first, he found Virat “cocky and arrogant”, but when he got to know him better, he developed much respect for him.
“I think he was quite cocky and arrogant when I met him the first time. With that hairstyle and he had bit of a strut going…yes flamboyant, absolutely. But the minute I got to know him a bit better and watched him play I mean I’ve got as much respect for him but I got to know him better as a human being,” said ABD.

Both de Villiers and Gayle spoke about the importance of fitting into the RCB brand, which is known for its flamboyant and exciting style of cricket. De Villiers said that he loved playing for RCB because the team gave him the freedom to express himself on the field. Gayle, who is known for his aggressive batting, said that he felt right at home with RCB’s style of play.
The two cricketers also shared their most memorable moment with the team. De Villiers said that his favorite moment was just being around the RCB boys and partying with them. Gayle, on the other hand, said that his most memorable moment was when he scored a record-breaking 175 not out against the Pune Warriors in 2013.
