InsideSport takes a look at the five key cricketing events in 2022.

Seven host cities announced for ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022

1. T20 World Cup 2022: Australia will host the T20 World Cup 2022 with the chance to defend the title at home. But the competition will increase manyfold after India’s disappointing campaign in 2021. The likes of Pakistan, India, New Zealand, England and South Africa will pounce on the opportunity to dethrone Australia. The event starts on October 18 with the final to be played on November 11.

2. India vs Pakistan: After a humiliating 10-wicket defeat to Babar Azam’s Pakistan, under a new captain Rohit Sharma, Team India will have the opportunity to take revenge — twice. With the Asia Cup 2022 scheduled to be played in September, India are likely to face Pakistan in the shortest format in Sri Lanka. It will also be a preparatory tournament for T20 World Cup a month later.

In ICC events, India have met Pakistan each time and it is unlikely that the two teams will not be paired together again. In Australia, Rohit Sharma & Co will have another opportunity to take revenge in case they miss that in Sri Lanka.

3. India tour of England: India will tour England for two limited-overs series in July. But the significance of the tour will be a Test match. It will be the abandoned 5th Test. If India win or draw the match, Virat Kohli will add another feather to his crown of winning a Test series in England, something that happened last in the Rahul Dravid era.

4. India tour of South Africa: The final frontier for Virat Kohli & Co, India have never won a Test series in South Africa. With a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series, India will have the opportunity to wrap it up when they face South Africa sans Quintin de Kock starting January 3.
