While there is no official confirmation on MS Dhoni’s retirement, it is largely believed that the veteran will hang up his boots after this season. Dhoni has already begun his succession plan with Ben Stokes roped in to lead the franchise in the future. It is a special season to end with CSK playing at the Chepauk after 3 years.

“Yes, it will be MS’s last season as a player. That is what we know so far. But of course, it’s his decision. He hasn’t officially communicated to the management that he will go into retirement. It is a special occasion for all CSK fans as IPL returns to Chennai. But it will be a sad moment if Dhoni plays his final season,” a CSK official told InsideSport before IPL 2023 kicked off.

There has been quite a fanfare at Chepauk every time CSK has played this season. Fans have turned up in huge numbers at the renovated MA Chidambaram Stadium to catch a glimpse of their idol. Chants of ‘Dhoni, Dhoni’ have been a constant throughout the game.
Chennai Super Kings play their final league stage game at the Chepauk on May 14. If CSK does not qualify for playoffs, he will play his final match against Kolkata Knight Riders. The four-time champions then travel to Delhi for their final game of the season. Should CSK make it to the top 4, they will return to Chepauk. That in all likeness will be Dhoni’s farewell game in front of his home fans.
