The best-case scenario for Chandler is getting to coach TUF against McGregor, as he has always had the idea in the back of his mind. Before the two fight in the Octagon later this year, he gets a chance to engage in a mental battle with “The Notorious” and get to know him better.

Why Conor McGregor Chose The Former Bellator Champ As An Opponent

Since joining the UFC in 2021, Chandler has made a strong impression, winning two Performance of the Night bonuses and two Fight of the Night accolades in just five outings. The three-time Bellator lightweight champion has had inconsistent success, finishing just 2-3 in those fights, but his wars with top opponents have kept him popular with the front office.

He’s also known for being one of the more comfortable fighters on the mic, a skill that helped him to deal with McGregor on TUF 31.

Conor feels like Michael Chandler has put on some exciting fights throughout his fighting career and calls him a gamer. Conor doesn’t consider Chandler a bad fighter either which makes him happy to have Michael Chandler as his opponent. 

Conor has seen a lot of ups and downs in his fighting career and looks for consistency now, where he can go on for a long run. Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler get along well, but it’s obvious that the former two-division UFC champion is looking forward to the fight.

The TUF 31 season premiere airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN+.
