Failed Prediction of Conor McGregor

One of the most notable examples of McGregor’s failed predictions is his first fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in March 2016. McGregor was the featherweight champion at the time and was moving up to welterweight to fight Diaz on short notice. Despite being the smaller fighter, McGregor predicted that he would knock out Diaz in the first round.

However, things did not go as planned, and Diaz stunned McGregor with a second-round submission victory. McGregor’s prediction had failed, and he suffered his first loss in the UFC.

Another example of McGregor’s failed predictions is his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018. McGregor had been away from the UFC for over a year and was returning to face the undefeated Khabib for the lightweight title.

In the lead-up to the fight, McGregor predicted that he would knock out Khabib in the second round. However, Khabib dominated the fight from start to finish and submitted McGregor inthe fourth round. McGregor’s prediction had failed once again, and he suffered his second loss in the UFC.

McGregor’s most recent fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021 also saw his prediction fail. McGregor had previously beaten Poirier in their first fight in 2014 and predicted that he would knock him out again in the first round. However, Poirier had improved significantly since their first meeting and was able to weather McGregor’s early storm.

In the second round, Poirier landed a series of leg kicks that severely damaged McGregor’s leg, forcing the fight to end via doctor stoppage. McGregor’s prediction had failed for the third time, and he suffered his third loss in his last four fights.

Other Failed Predictions

It’s worth noting that McGregor’s predictions haven’t always failed. He famously predicted that he would knock out Jose Aldo in 13 seconds at UFC 194 in December 2015, and he did just that. However, his failed predictions have become more memorable due to their high stakes and the attention that McGregor garners.

Despite his failed predictions, McGregor remains one of the biggest stars in combat sports. His charisma, fighting style, and ability to sell fights have made him a household name and a major draw for the UFC. However, his recent string of losses has raised questions about whether he can still compete at the highest level. Only time will tell if McGregor can bounce back from his recent losses and fulfill his predictions in the octagon once again as he is set to return.

In addition to McGregor’s failed predictions in the UFC, it’s also worth mentioning his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather in August 2017. McGregor, who had no professional boxing experience, predicted that he would knock out Mayweather in the early rounds and shock the world. However, Mayweather, who was widely regarded as one of the best boxers of all time, toyed with McGregor and stopped him in the 10th round. McGregor’s prediction had failed once again, but he still earned a massive payday and gained respect from many boxing fans for his performance.

In conclusion, Conor McGregor’s predictions have become a part of his persona and legacy in combat sports. While some of his predictions have come true, his notable failed predictions in the UFC have become more memorable. McGregor’s recent losses have raised questions about his future in the sport, but his star power and ability to sell fights remain undeniable. Whether McGregor can fulfill his predictions and regain his former glory in the UFC remains to be seen, but his legacy as a fighter and showman is already cemented in history.
