Garcia entered the tournament as a qualifier and after winning both her qualifying matches in three sets, she entered the the main draw where she beat three top-10 world-ranked opponents, Maria Sakkari, Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula, to reach the final. She continued her form in the final to defeat  Czech Kvitova, the twice Wimbledon champion.

Since coming back from a foot injury in May, Garcia has won three events on three different surfaces, on clay in Warsaw, where she beat world number one Iga Swiatek, grass in Bad Homburg and hardcourt in Cincinnati.

Right from the start Garcia took upper hand in the contest as she broke the first service game of Kvitova through a pair of double faults by the Czech. From then on, Garcia built on that momentum as she took a double-break over Kvitova to lead the first set 4-0. She closed out the first set 6-2.

In the second set too Garcia’s domination continued as she led 2-0 after breaking Kvitova once. But the 32-year old took some time as she needed medical attaention. Kvitova returned after the break but Garcia went on with her job as she won her 10th career title by winning the second set 6-4.

“It’s hard to believe I am standing here today it has been such a week,” Garcia told the Centre Court crowd. “Just happiness. Every single win is very important. Every title is very special, [WTA] 250, 1000, it’s always very hard to describe it. It’s not happening so often, and you have to really enjoy it. I’m really grateful for this great week of tennis, and to win another title, it’s very special.”

With 33 match-wins on the year in total, only Iga Swiatek (50), Simona Halep (39) and Ons Jabeur (38) have more victories this season than Garcia.
