The BCCI selector made it clear that Ganguly had urged Kohli in a video conference to stay as the T20I captain but that Kohli had either not heard or been unaware of it.
The former Indian cricketer went on to say that Kohli “tried to slander Ganguly in the media” during his press conference (by purposefully speaking about the change in captaincy) ahead of the SA trip because he believed the previous Indian captain was responsible for his removal as ODI captain.

Chetan Sharma also believed that the press conference altered the relationship between Ganguly and Kohli. The former player made it clear that the former BCCI chairman was not biased in favor of Rohit Sharma but wasn’t simply in favour of Kohli.
