16 year old R. Praggnanandhaa won the second game against World No. 2 Ding Liren in the final of Chessable Masters online rapid chess tournament on Wednesday.

On Day 2 of Finals of the online event Ding defeated Praggnanandhaa in the two-day final match.

Defeating his 16-year-old opponent was no easy task for the Chinese. The Indian proved very tough nut to crack even under pressure situations in the FINALS.

  • The Chinese won the first set on Wednesday.
  • But saw his opponent bouncing back in the second 4-game mini-match.
  • A clear rating favourite, Ding defeated his prodigious rival in the deciding blitz tiebreaker.

Despite losing this match, it was a remarkable perfomace by Praggnanandhaa.

He beat Magnus Carlsen in the prelims. He finished the single round-robin in fourth place, and knocked out Wei Yi and Anish Giri in the knockout.

How the Praggnanandhaa vs Ding Liren FINALS progressed on Thursday?

Game 3: On Thursday Game 3 was the most decisive and critical confrontation of the day. Pragg got ahead on the scoreboard after outplaying his more experienced opponent in a rook endgame.

A draw was agreed on move 106.

Game 4 also ended in another draw. The match moved to tiebreaks.

A clear rating favourite, Ding defeated his prodigious rival in the deciding blitz tiebreaker.

Praggnanandhaa vs Ding Liren – Praggnanandhaa Chessable Masters: The 16-year-old from Chennai showed off all his skills as he simply overpowered the super-strong Dutch No.1 Anish Giri in the Semifinal.

That set up his summit clash with China’s World No. 2 Ding Liren, who stunned World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen in the other semifinal.

The entry in the FINALS by Praggnanandhaa made him the first Indian to reach the title-clash of an event on the Champions Chess Tour.

In two months’ time, Pragg will now play at the Chess Olympiad in Chennai. He will participate for India’s B team at Olympiad.
