Eugenie Bouchard made a good start to her second round contest as she asserted her dominance in the contest right from the start by breaking Thandi’s first two service games to take 4-0 lead. Karman Kaur took time to settle in the middle and after the double break, she lead 30-0 in her third service game but quickly lost the lead as she committed a couple of unforced errors and a double fault to trail 30-40. However, after a long battle in deuce, Thandi finally won her first service game to trail 1-4. She however could not break Bouchard as the Canadian went on to hold her next two service games and sealed the first set 6-2 with a searing ace.
However in the second set, Thandi started showing a good fight as she held on to her first two service games and gave a tough fight to her opponent coming close to breaking her. She finally clinched the break in the sixth game of the set to take 4-2 lead. Leading 5-3 and serving for the set, Thandi had the opportunity to take the match into the deciding set but Bouchard showed her experience here as she saved three set points to clinch a crucial break against the Indian to trail 4-5.
Bouchard then managed to level the contest and took the match into the tie-breaker, which she sealed comfortably to outlast the Indian and entered the quarterfinals. This victory iss Bouchard’s second win in the main draw of any tournament this season.
“I tied to dominate the game, In the second set she was controlling and I tried to comeback and I think it was not too late in the end,” said Bouchard after her victory over the Indian.
