The last WTA event in India was held in the year 2008 which was the Bangalore Open that was the biggest WTA tournament in South-East Asia offering a prize money of USD 600,000. Top players like Serena Williams, Venus William and Jelena Jankovic participated in it with Serena Williams emerging as the champion.
This year the event will have a prize money of 31,000 USD and Alison Riske is the top seeded player. 72nd ranked Varvara Gracheva, Poland’s Magda Linette, Tatjana Maria and Rebecca Peterson are the next four seeded players. From India Ankita Raina and Karman Thandi have been given wildcard entries.

Alison Riske leads first quarter
Top seed Alison Riske is one of the star attractions in the tournament. She is the only player ranked inside the Top 50 in the World to participate in this tournament. She is in the first quarter and will begin her campaign against Anastasia Gasanova. In the second round, she is likely to face the winner between the unseeded Arianne Hortono and Katie Swan. The other seeded player in this quarter is sixth seeded Qiang Wang. Wang will begin her campaign against Germany’s Yanina Wickmayer. The winner of this contest will face a qualifier in the second round.
Magda Linette headlines second quarter
Poland’s Magda Linette, who is ranked 73 in the world is the third seed in this tournament and she leads the second quarter. Linette begins her campaign by facing Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima in the first round. Whoever wins this contest will be up against either Oksana Selekmeteva or Despina Papamichail.
Canada’s Rebecca Marina is the only other seeded player in this quarter. The seventh seed will face Anna Blinkova in the first round. In the second round, she is likely to face the winner between Katarzyna Kawa and Astra Sharma.
India’s Ankita Raina & Karman Thandi in third quarter
India’s Anita Raina and Karman Thandi find themselves in the third quarter. Both the players have been given wildcard entries to the main draw. While Karman Thandi begins her campaign against eighth seed Chloe Paquet, Ankita Raina faces a tough challenge in her opening round as she will face fourth seed Tatjana Maria, Eugenie Bouchard is also in this quarter and she faces Joanne Zuger in the first round, while Nadia Podorska is the other player in the quarter and she faces a qualifier in the opening round.
Varvara Gracheva leads fourth quarter
Second seed Varvara Gracheva headlines action in the final quarter of the draws. She will face a qualifier in the first round. If she advances to the second round, she is likely to face Canada’s Carol Zhao. Zhao will face a qualifier in her first round contest. Fifth seed Rebecca Peterson is the only other seeded player in the quarter and she will begin her campaign against Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva.
