The reigning champions continue their quest to retain their trophy as they hosted Ligue 1 title holders Lille in London. Ahead of kick-off, the big news from the clash was Thomas Tuchel’s decision to drop Romelu Lukaku but Kai Havertz stepped up in his absence for Chelsea sending an early attempt wide before eventually heading the ball past Léo Jardim to hand the hosts the lead.

After going down early, the visitors tried to ramp things up at the other end however the likes of Renato Sanches and Jonathan David couldn’t find a way through and nobody could really test Édouard Mendy.

Coming out after the break, Chelsea continued to control the game with a handful of chances coming inches away from a second on multiple occasions. A wide-open Marcos Alonso saw Mehmet Zeki Çelik block his effort before Christian Pulisic eventually doubled the lead.

The result means Tuchel’s men are one step closer to the quarter-finals, however, they will be worried about their upcoming Carabao Cup final on Sunday after losing both Mateo Kovačić and Hakim Ziyech to injury.
