A late moment of genius from Kai Havertz saw Chelsea beat Newcastle 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. A turbulent week at Stamford Bridge ended with the Blues hosting an in-form Newcastle side intent on keeping up their stunning run of recent results.
It was a tight opening to the game with neither side really creating anything of note in the first 20 minutes. The Blues would go closest on the half hour mark but Timo Werner’s angled effort was palmed behind for a corner.

VAR was then called towards the end of the half as Havertz seemingly elbowed Dan Burn, but the German was only given a yellow card. After the break the Magpies thought they had a shout for a penalty with Trevor Chalobah dragging back Jacob Murphy’s shirt, however the referee waved play on.
But with just four minutes to go Havertz plucked the ball out of the air and finished brilliantly to put the west London side ahead.
