The Red Devils are enjoying a fruitful season so far. They also won the Carabao Cup over the weekend and are mounting a charge in the Premier League too. Despite conflicting reviews following his signing last summer, Casemiro, 31, is one of the club’s top players and has flourished in United’s midfield.
Neville acknowledges that Casemiro has had a “devastating” impact, but he thinks his acquisition was an exception in United’s transfer policy and won’t be repeated next year. Neville said, ‘I feel like Ten Hag is not going to sign [expensive, high-profile players]. If new owners come in they’re going to want to make a statement, they’ll want to blow the transfer market open. I don’t think that will suit him.’

Gary continued with his thoughts. He said, ‘But Casemiro, there’s no doubt – we all said it by the way – £60m? £70m? And £20m-a-year [contract] for five years is a £170m investment. That is a massive investment. It’s not a smart or shrewd signing when you look at it from a [big picture] point of view. None of us thought that.’
Even though Neville believes it is not a smart signing, he does not shy away from the fact that Casemiro has been a huge hit. Gary said, ‘The impact he’s having in the short term and what Manchester United need now, he’s devastating for the club in unbelievable ways.’
