- After finishing as runner-up at last year’s Canadian Open, Pliskova will be eager to win the title this time at the WTA 1000 tournament. Pliskova missed the early part of this year and began the season at the Indian Wells Masters where she was ousted in the first round by Danka Kovinic.
- She won her first match of the seaon on clay at the Charleston Open where she faced second round defeat. After failing to go past the second round in the next three tournaments, she finally reached the semifinal at Strasbourg. She then faced second round defeat at French Open.
- Her best performance on grass was at the Berlin Championships, where she reached until the quarterfinal and ws ousted from the second round at Wimbledon.
- She has however displayed her best Tennis of the season at by beating Barbora Krejcikova in straight games in the first round. She also ousted Amanda Anisimova in straight games in the second round.
- In the third round she faced third seed Maria Sakkari and won the contest after three sets. In the quarterfinals she defeated Quinwen Zheng in three sets to make it to the semifinal.

- Meanwhile, Haddad Maia had a slow start to her season as she failed to go past the second round at Gippsland Trophy, Sydney International, Australian Open and Qatar Open. However, at the Monterrey Open, she reached the semifinals and lost to second seed Leylah Fernandez.
- She started her clay court season too on a poor note, but won her maiden title at Saint Milo WTA 125K event at France. She followed it up by finishing as runner-up at WTA 125K in Paris.
- At the French Open she faced second round after losing in straight sets to Kaia Kanepi.
- She buried her disappointment at the French Open by winning the Nottingham Open, where she was the seventh seed. She defeated Alison Riske in the final in three sets.
- She also made second consecutive final appearance at Birmingham Classic but withdrew from the contest against Zhang Shuai after sustaining an injury. She continued her good form by reaching the semifinals at Eastbourne International.
- She then suffered first round defeat at Wimbledon. At the Canadian Open apart from her second round contest against Leylah Fernandez all the other wins have come in three sets but she has gone past opponents like Iga Sqiatek and Belinda Bencic to reach the semifinals.
Pliskova vs Maia Head-to-Head: Both the players will be facing each other for the third time in their career. Both the players have won one game each. They last met last year at the Indian Wells Masters with with Haddad Maia winning the match in three sets. Both the players are in good form and it is expected to be a tight contest.
