The Indian Football team will begin their Asian Games 2023 campaign on September 19, seeking to shine in their ninth appearance. The men’s squad will open their campaign against China on the same day. They have been placed in the same category as China, Bangladesh, and Myanmar.
India, ranked 99th in the most recent FIFA rankings, will be the second-best ranked team in their group, trailing only China (80th). Myanmar is ranked 160th, and Bangladesh is placed 189th. The Indian women’s football squad, which is rated 61st in the FIFA rankings, is in Group B with Chinese Taipei (ranked 38th) and Thailand (ranked 46th). Senior national teams compete in the Asian Games’ women’s football category, which has no age limitations.
The Indian women’s football squad had previously competed at the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1998 and Incheon in 2014. The competition for the women’s team begins on September 21 with a match versus Chinese Taipei. The team’s next match is against Thailand on September 24.
