As far as Lakshya is concerned, it was a complete domination over two games. The Indian shuttler won the contest 21-12 and 21-11 to show his fellow competitors that he is ready to go deep into the competition.

One of the interesting thing about his contest on Monday was his strategy. There was an element of aggression. He tried to kill off points quickly, using the angles, speed and power to his advantage. He tried to play a large number of cross court smashes, which helped him win several points too.

If the first set was an easy one, the Indian was not challenged much by Kristian. The latter despite being an experienced campaigner made a number of errors, hitting the shuttle long and wide to give the Indian an advantage. Lakshya chanced upon such kind of an opportunity to win the contest without breaking much sweat.

Srikanth defeated Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen in straight sets 22-20, 21-19 in a match that lasted 51 minutes. In the first game, Srikanth started with a superb straight smash after a couple of nice crosscourt shots. The game went for a tight finish and Srikanth outsmarted his Irish opponent 22-20.

The second game was tough as both the shuttlers struggled to take a point against each other. Srikanth, however, prevailed to clinch the game 21-19.

India’s Ashwini Ponappa and Siki Reddy also made it to the second round of the competition. They played some impressive badminton to win their contest against Aminath Nabeeha and Fathimath Nabaaha 21-7 and 21-9.

However, there were some big disappointment for India too. Sai Praneeth suffered a first round exit after losing to Chou Tien Chen. It was a close encounter, which went to three games. At the end, Chou won the match 21-15, 15-21 and 21-15. Also, in women’s singles Malvika Bansod lost to Line Christophersen 14-21, 12-21.

Indian men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth B Reddy did not have a great campaign either. They went down to the Japanese pair of Hiroki Okumara and Masayuki Onadera 11-21, 21-19 and 15-21.
