As the half came to a close, the visitors secured victory when Foden capitalised on Philip Billing’s errant pass to elude Jack Stephens’ charge and put City three goals ahead. Six minutes into the second half, Chris Mepham deflected Alvarez’s shot into his own net to increase City’s lead to four. Once more, Foden provided the ball into the box as Guardiola’s team erupted.
The only significance of Lerma’s goal seven minutes from time was that it prevented City goalkeeper Ederson from recording his 100th Premier League clean sheet. Due to the loss, Bournemouth dropped to 19th place in the league standings on Saturday after Leeds United and West Ham United both won.
