But it is not so good news for out-of-favour Test specialists Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma and Mayank Agarwal. All three are set to be dropped from annual central contracts. Hardik Pandya is currently in Group C. As he is set to take over T20 captaincy from Rohit Sharma, he will get a promotion to Group A. Apart from former vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and speedster Ishant, Wriddhiman Saha and Mayank Agarwal will also be axed from the list. The trio are out of contention for a place in the Test side.

“Surya was in Group C but his performance in the last one year warrants a promotion to Group B at least, if not A. He is currently world No. 1 in T20I ICC rankings and is a serious contender in ODI team also,” a senior official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Shubman Gill on the other hand is now a two-format regular. He is currently in the C Grade bracket and will get a promotion to B Grade. Someone like Ishan Kishan could also enter the list. He slammed the fastest ODI double century on Saturday.
Hardik Pandya, the future T20 captain, is currently in B Grade. But after a string of consistent shows, he will get a promotion. He was demoted to Group C last year after missing a major part due to a back injury.
Apart from them, another future leader, KL Rahul is likely to jump to Grade A+. He is the defacto captain in Rohit Sharma’s absence in ODI and Test.
Current BCCI Central Contracts:
- A+ Grade (Rs 7 crore): Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma.
- A Grade (Rs 5 crore): Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami.
- B Grade (Rs 3 crore): Cheteshwar Pujara, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya
- C Grade (Rs 1 crore): Shikhar Dhawan, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Shubman Gill, Hanuma Vihari, Yuzvendra Chahal, Suryakumar Yadav and Mayank Agarwal.
