Bangladesh are currently playing a bilateral series against Afghanistan, after which they will leave for South Africa, where they will be playing three ODI and a couple of Test matches. Since he went unsold in the IPL 2022 auction, many expected the player to feature in the Test series. Shakib has previously made himself unavailable for quite a few bilateral Test series owing to a number of reason, but according to Papon, that will not be the case this time around.

“Listen, we spoke from a distance after the match today. I can’t go near him (due to quarantine guidelines). I told him, I will speak to you after you come back from South Africa. He smiled and said, ‘As you say.’ As far as I am concerned, he will play,” Papon informed the media, as per quotes in Cricbuzz.
“He never said he won’t play. He only mentioned the IPL, so there’s no point talking about it. Any player can refuse to play any format. I have no problem with that. But they have to tell me,” he further added.

Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa will commence on 18th March with a three-match ODI series. It will be followed by a couple of Test matches – to be played at Kingsmead and St. George’s Oval.
