Robert Lewandowski was the favourite to win Ballon d’Or last year but France football cancelled the award due to the COVID situation. He won the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich earlier this year by setting a new goal record in a season. According to a report from Sport Bild, Bayern Munich will be sending sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic and manager Julian Nagelsmann to the Ballon d’Or ceremony to support staff striker Lewandowski.
At third spot (likely), Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema. The French striker is in tremendous form in La Liga. This could be the last attempt for both Lewandowski and Benzema to capture the award.
Lionel Messi’s rival Cristiano Ronaldo is also part of the 30 men probable but not among favourites. He re-joined Manchester United from Serie A club Juventus during this season.
England great Gary Linekar, Gerard Pique and Thierry Henry have put their weights behind Lionel Messi while Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Carragher chose to stick with Lewandowski.
