Men’s Singles

World No.1 Viktor Axelsen was looking rusty after his loss against HS Prannoy in his previous match. Against Kodai Naraoka, he struggled in the first game that allowed Naraoka to take lead and he fought back hard but lost the first game 21-23. In the second game, Axelsen managed to take the lead and entered the interval with a  11-9 lead.

However Naraoka bounced back and gave a scare o Axelsen as he was close to sealing the game with the score at 19-17. But the Japanese failed to close out the game committing errors that allowed Axelsen to claw his way back and the Danish capitalised on it to seal the game 21-19. In the third game too both the players fought well but eventually Axelsen prevailed and advanced to the final.

Earlier Anthony Ginting maintained his winning streak in the tournament as he defeated his countryman Jonatan Christie in three games. Right from the start of the game, Ginting was maintaining his lead and he easily closed out the first game without much challenge.

In the second game, he allowed Christie to make a comeback as he entered the interval with a two point lead. Ginting too continued to make too many errors that saw Christie take six successive point to go up 19-10 and he eventually took the contest into the decider. In the decider, Ginting yet again made a comeback as he dominated to take 11-4 lead at the interval. However Christie managed to level the scores at 18-18. But Ginting kept his cool and closed out the match in his favour.

Women’s Singles

World No.1 Akane Yamaguchi became the first Japanese women’s singles player to enter the final of BWF World Championships 2022. She defeated top seed Chen Yu Fei with a comfortable 21-19, 21-10 victory in the semifinals, Earlier in the tournament , when both these players met, Chen Yufei clinched a clinched a straight game victory.

In the other semifinal, Tai Tzu Ying defeated China’s He Bing Jiao 21-18, 21-14. With the loss, He Bing Jiao lost her first game in the tournament. Tai Tzu Ying meanwhile avenger her loss earlier in the tournament against the Chinese with this victory.

Men’s Doubles 

In the Men’s Doubles, Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan. defeated Malaysia’s Teo Ee Yi and Ong Yew Sen with a come-from-behind 17-21, 21-13, 21-19 victory. In the other match, China’s Liu Yuchen and Ou Zuanyi, extended their unbeaten run in the tournament with a 22-20, 11-21, 21-19 victory against Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Ardianto.

Women’s Doubles

In the Women’s Doubles, China’s Zhang Shuxian / Zheng Yu pair faced defeat against their compatriots Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan. In the other match, Aimsaard sisters advanced to the finals after clinching a 22-20, 21-15 victory against South Korea’s Jeong Na-eun and Kim Hye-jeon.

Mixed Doubles

In the Mixed Doubles, China’s Zheng Siwei and  Huang Yaqiong  defeated Malaysia’s Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing to advance to the finals. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Rinov Rivaldy lost to Pitha Mentari Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh / Sapisree Taerattanachai.
