Ankita Raina, ranked 202 in singles, enjoyed a good-time last year especially in the doubles where she featured in the main draws of all the major Grand Slams for the first time in her career. She also won her first WTA doubles title at the Phillip Island Open in Melbourne last year and achieved her career-best doubles ranking.

In the singles, however, she hasn’t had any noteworthy performances in the past year. She couldn’t go past the qualifying stage in all the Grand Slams. The 28-year old who has been India’s number one singles player for over six years now hopes to replicate her success in the singles in the upcoming season.

The build-up to her Australian Open campaign hasn’t been great as she had participated in the Open de Limoges, a WTA 125 event in Paris just a few weeks ago and after returning to India, she faced a difficult time as she was tested Covid Positive.

Despite having no symptoms, she had to undergo quarantine in Delhi and then produced a negative result and somehow managed to land in Melbourne on time.
