Australia GP: Mercedes chief Toto Wolff not too optimistic about Australian GP, says ‘we don’t have a Magic Fix’: Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff admits the disastrous start for the team in the 2022 season will go on in the Australian Grand Prix. Toto Wolff said, “We are in a learning race and the first two weekends have shown we still have plenty to learn. At the moment, our track performance is not meeting our own expectations. But everyone at Brackley and Brixworth is focused on understanding the problems and finding the right solutions.”

“There won’t be a magic fix for the next race weekend. But we’re pushing to steadily bring gains over the upcoming races. Hopefully that moves us closer to the front of the pack. Until then, we need to maximise each opportunity. And make the most of the package we have.”

It’s been a rocky start for Mercedes in the 2022 campaign. They have dominated the sport since 2014, winning eight consecutive Constructors championships. They had hopes of making it nine on the trot this year.

Meanwhile, Formula 1 saw new sets of regulations in the 2022 season after almost 40 years. The ground effect cars came into existence once again. The Silver Arrows are reeling behind Ferrari and Red Bull this year. Their drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have struggled to find any race pace.

Hamilton and Russell enjoyed a 3-4 finish at the season opener at Bahrain Grand Prix. Russell continued to impress with his performance in Saudi Arabia too. He managed to finish fifth in the race. But, Hamilton saw himself way behind and finished in the tenth spot.

Hamilton is fifth in the Drivers’ standings with 16 points so far. Russell finds himself in the fourth spot with 22 points to his name.

Toto added, “So, there are various challenges ahead of us. But that’s something we relish and is when a team really shows its true spirit. Lewis and George are making an important contribution to the overall effort, providing feedback, spending time in the simulator. They are working together to help push us forward.”

“Now we head back to Melbourne for the first time since 2020. We will be racing in Australia for the first time in three years. That’s too long for a city and country that are so passionate about F1. We’re looking forward to seeing the fans. And the new track layout which promises more overtaking opportunities and faster lap times.”

Round three of Formula 1 takes place in Australia. The Australian Grand Prix starts on 8th April and the race is scheduled for 10th April.
