Australia are in search of a new head coach ever since Justin Langer stepped down from the position last month. Many candidates have been named and the latest among them is Trevor Bayliss, who happens to be an Australian but was once was the coach of Australia’s arch-rivals, England.

A report in Guardian suggests that officials of Cricket Australia recently met Bayliss and discussed the prospect of him joining the baggy greens, but nothing has been finalized as of yet. Bayliss was most recently the coach of Indian Premier League side Sunrisers Hyderabad, and he will also be seen coaching the London Spirit team in the upcoming edition of The Hundred.
Watson wants Trevor Bayliss at Australia, Cummins happy with McDonald – Public opinion is currently split in terms of Bayliss’ possible appointment. Former all-rounder Shane Watson, who himself is a part of the coaching setup at Delhi Capitals, has vouched for his support for Bayliss.

“I love the experience Trevor Bayliss has. He has probably seen every single thing possible in cricket just about and I would love to see him get a great opportunity. Andrew McDonald is a great coach and is in the early part of his career, but I would err towards experience just for this interim period for the next stage of Australian cricket,” Watson had previously stated.

On the other hand, Australia’s Test skipper Pat Cummins is pretty satisfied with Andrew McDonald at the helm. Notably, McDonald performed the duties of a head coach in the Kangaroos’ recently-concluded series against Pakistan.
Cummins lavished praise on the stop-gap coach by saying “He (McDonald) is just a great operator. The boys absolutely love him. He’s very diligent, very thorough and strategic and organised. He’s a huge part of this tour win. It’s not my place to employ the coach but ‘Ronnie’ has been fantastic.”
