This is also the first time that the two teams will be playing each other since 2014. But Zimbabwe could not even challenge Australia in the first game of the series.
With Australia starting as favourites for the clash, Zimbabwe started the game on a decent note. They were 104 for the loss of wo wickets. But the introduction of Cameron Green changed the game complexion in a big way.
Green had an amazing day with the Australia scalping five wickets. Even leg-spinner Adam Zampa brought in all his experience to trouble the African nation batters. They eventually got bowled out for 200 runs in 48 overs.
Wesley Madhevere impressed with 72 runs, but the middle order and the lower order faltered easily. Seven Zimbabwe players did not cross single digit scores in the contest.
When it came to chasing down the score, it was just a matter of time with Australia possessing quality players. Though Aaron Finch was out for 15, Warner showed his class, scoring 57 runs from 66 balls to provide the platform.
Steve Smith also delivered with a patient 80-ball 48. But, there was no question of defence as Glenn Maxwell took to the crease at the end. The powerful hitter scored a nine-ball 32, including three fours and three sixes to kill the game in no time. They reached the target in the 34th over.
Australia will hope to clinch the three-match series in the second ODI. They will meet Zimbabwe on Wednesday.
