Australia is now 2-0 ahead in the three-match series. In the Sydney Test, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. David Warner, their starting senior, was dismissed by Anrich Nortje on a score of 10. However, the hosts maintained their dominance against South Africa’s bowler’s thanks to half-centuries from Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja.
In the century stand, Labuschagne dominated the other participant. In his 73 off 129 balls, he hit 13 fours. Khawaja scored 51 off 119 balls and hits six fours. When Labuschagne gestures towards the dressing room during the stand for a cigarette lighter, everyone on the field gasped.

A lighter was brought onto the field as per the batter’s directions, and Labuschagne utilized it to make minor modifications to his helmet. He then continued to bat in his distinct manner. When play was halted due to poor lighting, the Australian No. 3 and opener Khawaja had added 126 runs for the second wicket.

Usman Khawaja remained undefeated on 54 at stumps, and Marnus Labuschagne top-scored for the hosts with a well constructed 79. Australia finished the day at 147/2. On the final ball of the 47th over, which also happened to be the final ball of the day’s play, Labuschagne was dismissed by Anrich Nortje.
