There was drama in every moment in the 1st ODI of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy. Chasing a modest target of 233, Australia fumbled. They lost their Top 5 with just 44 runs on board. But then began Australia’s fightback. Cameron Green and Alex Carey rescued Australia from the collapse, adding a record 6th wicket partnership of 158 runs off just 163 balls.

But with Alex Carey dismissed by Lockie Fergusen, there was more drama in store. Australia soon lost Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc. Australia still needed 26 runs with just two wickets in hand. Adam Zampa played a fluent 13-ball 13-run knock to take Australia closer to victory. But then, a sudden spell of rain almost derailed Australia’s plans with just 4 runs to win.
However, as the fate would have it, the rain stopped with just 30 seconds remaining for cut-off time. And Zampa took Australia home in 45.1 overs and two wickets to spare.

Earlier, NewZealand set a 233-run target for Australia in the 1st ODI. Devon Conway, Kane Williamson and Tom Latham scored 40+ scores but they could not convert their starts into a big knock. For Australia, Glenn Maxwell bowled brilliantly bagging 4 wickets. Josh Hazlewood returned with 3/31.
