ATP Rankings: Novak Djokovic has sent a warning to his younger opponents after he reclaimed the top spot in the ATP Rankings. Djokovic clinched the Australian Open 2023 title and with that he has become the World No.1, displacing Carlos Alcaraz. He has also equalled Rafael Nadal’s tally of 22 Grand Slam titles. Following his victory in the Melbourne major, the 35-year old stated that he and Nadal are “still not going anywhere,” as they are motivated to win more Grand Slam titles. Speaking to Channel Nine after his Australian Open victoy, Djokovic said, “Both myself and Nadal, we probably still fight for and it still motivates us the most, winning the biggest titles in our sport and trying to keep up with the young guns. We are still not going anywhere.”

While Djokovic has begun his 374th week as the World No.1, Rafael Nadal, after a second round exit from the Australian Open this year has slid down to sixth spot on the rankings. Youngsters like Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casepr Ruud and Andrey Rublev are occupying the spots between Djokovic and Nadal.

Speaking about the youngsters on the tour, Djokovic said, “You have these guys who are super strong.  They have been beating us in different tournaments on different surfaces. I think tennis is in good hands.”

Djokovic’s title victory has yet another stirred up the never-ending debate of the Greatest player of all time in Tennis, Djokovic had his say on the comparisons, “At this stage of my career, these trophies are the biggest motivational factor of why I still compete. That’s the case without a doubt. I never really liked comparing myself to others, but of course it’s a privilege to be part of the discussion as one of the greatest players of all time.”

Djokovic’s next target is now to surpass Nadal’s tally of 22 Grand Slam titles. The next Grand Slam event will be the Roland Garros, that is set to be played in May this year. Nadal. who is currently recovering from a hip injury will is also aiming to make his return ahead of the Grand Slam event, which has been his forte. He is aiming to defend his title to lift  his record 15th title at the French Open.
