ATP Rankings: Rafael Nadal has reached yet another milestone in his stellar career. The Spaniard, who is currently the World No.2 is entering into his 900th week as the Top 10 player in the rankings. He made his debut into the Top 10 of the ATP Rankings way back in 2005. Since then, the 22-time Grand Slam champion has continued to maintain his spot in the list. Nadal now leads the list by a big margin. The next player with the most weeks inside the Top 10 is Jimmy Connors. The American enjoyed 789 weeks within the Top 10 between 1973 and 1988. Nadal surpassed Connor’s feat in 2020. Among Nadal’s contemporaries, Roger Federer comes close to the Spaniard. The Swiss legend was in the Top 10 for 742 weeks from 2002 to 2016.

900: Rafael Nadal [2005 to present]
789: Jimmy Connors [1973 to 1988]
742: Roger Federer [2002 to 2016]
619: Ivan Lendl [1980 to 1992]

Out of the 900 weeks, Nadal spent 209 weeks as the World No.1. Nadal’s streak does not include the 22 weeks the ATP rankings were frozen in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While there is no other man who has even come close to Nadal’s feat. The Spaniard is still behind Martina Navratilova, who was in the Top 10 for a historic 1000 successive weeks.

Rafael Nadal had a good season in 2022. He started the year by winning the Australian Open. It was his 21st Grand Slam title. With that he surpassed rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in Grand Slam victory tally. He then won the French Open title by defeating Casper Ruud in the final.

However towards the end of the year, he suffered injuries. He had to withdraw from his semifinal contest at Wimbledon after suffering abdominal injury. He made his return at the Cincinnati Masters, where he bowed out from the second round. He then made fourth round exit at the US Open. He also couldn’t go past the group stages in the ATP Finals.

He will soon be back in action as he is set to feature in the inaugural United Cup that kickstarts on 29 December.
