Manchester United manufactured an astonishing smash-and-grab as they claimed a 1-1 draw at Atlético Madrid with their only shot on target. In a febrile Wanda atmosphere it was Atlético Madrid who took the initiative early on as Manchester United tried to soak up some early pressure.

This was all far too easy for Diego Simeone’s side as they took complete control of this game, stealing the ball from United on several occasions and looking dangerous every time they went forward.
They very nearly doubled their lead right on the stroke of half time as another cross from the left found its way to the far post but Sime Vrsjalko could only head against the crossbar. Into the second half and the Premier League side looked a little brighter in possession but were resorting to pot-shot from distance.
But totally against the run of play United got an equaliser as Anthony Elanga was laid in by Bruno Fernandes and finished well from the edge of the area. Atleti weren’t lying down though and almost went ahead again late on but Marcos Llorente’s curling effort crashed back off the crossbar.
