Asian Games: India shatters WORLD RECORD in men’s 10m air rifle team, clinches first gold

The trio of Rudrankksh Patil, Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar brought home India's first gold at Asian Games 2023.

The Indian shooting trio of Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar created history on Monday, as they not only won the gold medal in men’s 10m air rifle team but also smashed the world record at the Asian Games. During the qualification round, the Indian shooters scored a massive 1893.7, 0.4 more than what China had shot at the World Championships earlier this year.

On the other hand, South Korea claimed silver with 1890.1 points, followed by China at 1888.2. The first series was a bit of a slip-up by the Indian shooters, as Rudrankksh and Divyansh managed 104.8 each, while Aishwary got 104.1 only, with others taking the lead. But from there on Rudrankksh shot 106.1, with Aishwary coming up with 105.5, which gave momentum to India.

As far as the individual scores are concerned, Rudrankksh Patil had the best outing with 632.5 points and finished third in the qualifying event. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar was not far behind and secured the final spot with 631.6. Unfortunately, Divyansh Singh Panwar missed the final berth, with a score of 629.6.

India so far has won seven medals at the ongoing Asian Games, consisting of one gold, three silver, and three bronze. The shooting events at the Asian Games Hangzhou will be conducted from September 24 to October 1. A total of 33 medal events will be taking place across rifle, pistol, and shotgun categories at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre.
