Djokovic began the contest by serving exceptionally well against Khachanov. He also broke his opponent’s first two service game of the match and lead 3-0 at the start of the first set. The Serbian however failed to assert his dominance as he conceded a break to Khachanov soon and the Russian managed to level the contest 3-3. From then on Djokovic battled har to hold his service games and ensured he didn’t allow his opponent to take any lead. Leading 5-4, Djokovic managed to break Khachanov yet again to clinch the first set 6-4.
In the second set, Djokovic yet again dominated as he found his first break to take the score 3-1. From then on he just ensured he held on to his serves as he clinched a comfortable straight set victory to progress to the semifinal.
“I didn’t play as well from the baseline as I did in the first two matches, but still it was enough,” said Djokovic after the match. “I managed to produce some good tennis when it was the most needed in both sets.”
